Kota Kinabalu: Kota Kinabalu’s Stefan Alex captured the men’s open singles title at the Sabah Closed Tennis tournament held at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex over the weekend.
He brushed aside teammate Rus Zareef Hazmy Rus Hilmy 6-1, 6-1 in the final to lift the crown while in joint third place were Tang Yang and Kong Hui Zhe.

Stefan also took the open doubles title with Azli Jumatli after the pair defeated Roger Andrew Lim/Aaron Bradley Masikam 6-3,6-4 in the final.
Joint third place winners were Rus Zareef Hazmy/Jonathan Joshua and Shameer Abdurahman/Shan Danial.
Tito Latoja was also a doubles winner in the veteran 45 categories, having won the singles title after beating Avelino Latoja 6-1,6-3 in the final, and partnered Avelino to take the doubles title with a three sets 2-6, 6-2, 10-6 win over John Haris/Rahmat Hidaya.
The losing semi-finalists in the singles were Irwan Isdup and Azran Soud while in the doubles were Salleh Karim/Jabi Tananak and Desmond Guansing/Dzulfifly Awang.

In the ladies open doubles, Jenny Lee Woel Ni/Audrey Khoo beat Tai Tze Hong 8-1 to take the title and in third place were Caroline Lai/Leah Jolidi.
The ladies veteran 45 doubles title went to Yoko Kinmi/Masumi Yasuda following their 8-1 win over Regina McElhone/Lee Vun Chu and Audrey Khoo/ Jenny Lee Woel Ni came in third.

A total of 70 players took part in the three-day competition which was interrupted by heavy rain.
