SEMPORNA: A public tip-off led police to the seizure of two homemade guns at an estate worker’s quarters in a plantation, here, on Tuesday.

District Police Chief Supt Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said a team from the Semporna Crime Investigation Division raided the house about 11pm.

He said the 38-year-old estate worker, a foreigner, was also detained.

“During the raid, policemen found the two guns and a box of marbles believed to be used as ammunition.

“There was also a bottle of spirit believed to be used (as a propellant) in the seized guns,” he said in a statement, Wednesday.

The suspect and seized items were taken back to the Semporna police station for investigation under the Firearms Act 1960.

“The suspect can be jailed up to seven years or fined up to RM10,000, or both, if found guilty of possessing these items illegally,” said Farhan.

According to him, it is an offence for anyone to have in their possession, care, control or usage any sort of weapon or ammunition without a permit.
