Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Council of Churches and City Hall (DBKK) are collaborating for the 18th time to organise the Kota Kinabalu Christmas Celebration 2023 (KKCC 2023) at Padang Merdeka from December 12 to 15.

DBKK Director-General Junainah Abbie said the theme for this year’s celebration is “Christmas: Unity and Harmony”.

“This theme serves as a call for unity and togetherness despite our differences. It also serves as a reminder that we are all part of one community and should endeavor to promote peace, love and understanding in our society,” she said.

The launching of the KKCC 2023 will be officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, and the celebration is open to the public for four consecutive nights, from 6pm to 10pm.

The stage performances will feature singing, dancing and drama performances by local churches and Sabah artists such as The Male-Efficient, Joe Balanjiu Jr, Esther Applunius, Monica Marais, Sabah Kayan Federation, Sylvilina, La Cantare Group, Leslie Augustus, choir performances from different church denominations and more.

“The KKCC 2023 theme song titled ‘Kasih Natal’ will resonate throughout the KKCC night as a call for our unity,” Junainah said.

As the opening event of the KKCC 2023, the KKCC Sunset Fun Run 5km will take place on December 10 (Sunday).

The run will commence from Padang Merdeka to the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) and concludes back at Padang Merdeka.

Life Water Industries Sdn Bhd is sponsoring the water for the event. After the run, engaging programmes, including a lucky number draw and a costume contest, would be held.

Christmas carols from various churches in Kota Kinabalu will be showcased in a designated area behind the main stage for audience to enjoy.

Numerous sales stalls would be set up, offering a diverse range of products, food, Christmas decorations and locally produced goods.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, Christmas decorations will captivate visitors with mesmerising light show, nativity hut and a 50 x 20 feet Christmas tree.

A selected charity collection campaign will be conducted, and children aged 12 and under will receive gifts.

“For those unable to attend the event in person, the celebration will be live-broadcasted on the official Facebook page, 18TH Kota Kinabalu Christmas Celebration,” she said.
