Kota Kinabalu: Gender-based violence issues in Sabah will remain prevalent unless the collaboration between non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the relevant authorities is strengthened to eliminate the social issue.

A panel forum which discussed ways to stop violence against women and girls conducted during a 16-day activism campaign programme here highlighted several issues that make it difficult for abuse victims to get the help and protection they seek.

Other than the victims’ fear of being judged, feeling ashamed and a lack of shelters, the problem is also deeply rooted in the lack of action among enforcers, causing victims to stay silent about their abuse out of frustration.
