PETALING JAYA: An unidentified body was found floating in an advanced state of decomposition in the waters of Pangkor Laut, near Pulau Pangkor yesterday.

Manjung police chief Nordin Abdullah said police were informed by a caller at 12.18pm on the presence of the floating body, Berita Harian reported.

He said personnel from the Pulau Pangkor police station, the Kampung Acheh marine police and Pulau Pangkor fire and rescue station, arrived at the scene at 12.50pm.

“After an inspection of the body, which was found clothed in blue denim jeans and a red shirt, our men found no identification while the gender is also yet to be determined.

“We believe the body has been in the sea for over two weeks based on the state of decomposition and the moss-covered clothes,” he said in a statement yesterday, according to Berita Harian.

Nordin said that the case has been classified as sudden death for the time being.

“Members of the public who have lost a family member or who have information are asked to contact the nearest police station, or the Manjung police operations room at 05-6886-222,” he said.
