Only 20pc rely on Kota Kinabalu bus transport: Study
Kota Kinabalu requires public transport with good accessibility (extensive area services), dependability (information and punctuality), safety (against crime and accidents), affordable rates, and comfort (bus stops within 400 meters of residences). - Bernama pic for illustration only.
Kota Kinabalu: The rate of public transport use in the city is 20 per cent, compared to 80 per cent for private vehicles, a UMS study showed.

“This suggests that building a new road or widening an existing road is not the best option because congestion will persist. After all, consumers will prefer the upgraded route over the non-upgraded one.

“The best alternative is to encourage the use of public transport as such buses,” said Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities’ Geography Programme Senior Lecturer Associate Prof Dr Harifah Mohd Noor.
