Kota Kinabalu: Six Kota Kinabalu Sabah Games muaythai medal winners were rewarded with incentives presented by Datuk Kenny Chua at the appreciation dinner in Meridien hotel here on Sunday.
The team had won a total of three golds and three silvers to top the medal tally in the sport competed by 14 teams at the biennial games last year.
The gold medal winners were Awang Muhammad Hazmie Awang Handra (male - 63.5kg), Ed Rayan Jefferson (male - 51kg) and Joezietha Joyssie Jackson Joezietha (female - 51kg) while the silvers were delivered by Myra Arina Roslan (female - 48kg), Mohammad Shahrulnaim Mohd Kamarulzaman (male - 45kg) and Muhammad Hezric Mohd Saiful (male - 60kg).
Chua also gave additional incentives to some of the coaches, while all the team members were also given allowances by the management at the function.
The team’s head of technical and coach Jonathan Quan said the 12-member team had achieved their three-gold medal target and hoped the latest success will help them in the development of the sport.
“Congratulation to all the winners and not forgetting the other athletes, coaches, family members and friends for their hard work and support.
“Thank you to Datuk Kenny Chua for his support and contributions and also to the Mayor and Sabah Muaythai Association for giving us the opportunity and we are looking forward to a better year ahead.
“Our vision is to further develop the sport among the youth in schools and higher education institutes for the state and country,” he said.
He expressed his gratitude to the founder of Kota Kinabalu Muaythai Association Muslee Tuah for his trust to assist the team since 2019, and the support from head coach Frey Fernandez Howard from Monster Muaythai & Fitness Academy, coaches Airuddin Junaidi from Naga Kinabalu and Rizman from Borneon Tiger Mixed Martial Arts, assistant coaches Rashida Atan, Mohd Harif Mohd Feddy, as well as team manager cum coach Marc Marcellinus who also sponsored the dinner.
