TONGOD: Community leaders in Tongod who found to be dishonest in carrying out their duties will face suspension including the possibility of dismissal.

Kuamut Assemblyman, Datuk Masiung Banah, said he would not relent if there is strong evidence of the leaders involved are misusing the position for personal purposes.

“Likewise, government officials and employees who do not cooperate with the public when dealing with them, should be subject to disciplinary action.

“Although there have been no reports of government officials being absent from the office, this reminder should be put to good use,” he said, when officiating the Assemblyman’s Mandate ceremony at the Tongod District Council Hall on Thursday.

Masiung said drastic measures for leaders and public service members are appropriate to improve governance at all levels.

According to him, 2024 should be used as a platform for all civil servants including District Councilors in Tongod to achieve Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

He reminded civil servants not to be the cause of leakages as there would be no compromise.

The ceremony was also a farewell for Tongod Assistant District Officer (ADO), Cleophas John Gordon, who will continue service in the Chief Minister’s Department.

Cleophas is replaced by Ronley Saringan who reported for duty in early January.

Tongod District Officer, Nelson Domil Oluk, was among the 250 government officials and community leaders in attendance.
