Kota Kinabalu: Former Malaysian international Rozaimi Abdul Rahman has been signed up by Sabah FC to play in the MFL Under-23 squad for the 2024/25 season.

The 32-year-old almost rejoined the State team four years ago after his four-year tenure with JDT II ended in 2020 but the deal did not materialise in the end.

Sabah FC director Mohd Joh Hj Wid said the management and the player had reached an agreement  that he would only play and train with the MFL U-23 team.

“We made the decision to recall  Rozaimi because he has extensive experience in football.

He is an icon and we believe he can provide guidance and instruction to the young players,” he said after the contract signing ceremony held at the Sabah FC office in Kota Kinabalu.

Jo also welcomed the appointment of Johnny Dominicus and Rozaimie Rohim who have been retained as head coach and goalkeeper coach for the MFL U-23 team respectively.

The two will be assisted by Vun Kit Ming @ Billyton and Razlan Oto and all have been offered contracts for the 2024/2025 season.

Meanwhile, present at the ceremony were MFL U-23 team manager Datuk Hj Abdul Kassim Hj Razali, Sabah Football Association (Safa) secretary general Shamsuddin Mohd Shah, Safa supreme council member, Muhd Arziz Afizy Rumsani and Sabah FC chief operating officer Syazwan Imran.
