Singer criticised for donning ‘haram’ traditional outfit
A till from the music video.
MALAYSIAN singer-songwriter-producer Baby Shima recently took to TikTok after she was criticised by several netizens on her latest music video, “Bujang Sarawak”, on YouTube.

Many commented on her clothing selection, one comment which said, “Mengatakanharam…mau jugapakaipakaian orang kafir (This is said to be 'haram'. Why do you choose to wear an infidel’s clothing),” took the cake.

In her TikTok post, the 32-year-old said she had found the top holier-than-thou comment on her music video.

“Maybe this person thinks he/she is the holiest that he/she does not know the Iban traditional wear…his/her level of stupidity is at maximum,” she said on the TikTok post.

“You can see such comments on YouTube. I thought there was only one, but several netizens displayed their stupidity in the comment section.

“I do not know why they should even criticise other people’s culture?”

Shima then posted another TikTok video wearing the same traditional outfit, the Ngepan Iban, while lip-syncing to “Bujang Sarawak”.

The screenshot of the netizen’s comment was also stitched on a corner of the video post.

While most gave her supportive comments in the comment section, some assumed the commenters were being sarcastic and did not mean what they had posted.

At press time, “Bujang Sarawak” recorded 1.4 million views, more than 30,000 reactions and over 2,800 comments after its release about two weeks ago.
