Kuala Lumpur: The investigation into pro-Perikatan Nasional blogger Syarul Ema Rena Abu Samah centred on an allegation that a certain party in the Prime Minister’s Department had pocketed funds given to an NGO, says Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Azam Baki.
However, Azam said the claim was found to be untrue.
“Based on our investigation, there is no indication that the funds had been channelled to the party within the Prime Minister’s Department,” he told the media at the World Trade Centre here.
Azam said the government had transferred the funds after approving the application by the NGO.
Other than Syarul Ema, better known as Ratu Naga, MACC had also recorded statements from several other witnesses.
Last Friday, Syarul Ema was brought to MACC’s headquarters in what her lawyer claimed was an arrest.
Azam, however, later clarified that she was called in to facilitate a probe under Section 16 of the MACC Act, which relates to the offence of accepting gratification.
