Kota Kinabalu: A policy paper is being prepared for submission to the Sabah Government to improve the welfare of tourist guides in the State.
Director of Borneo Tourism Research Centre at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Dr Balvinder Kaur Kler, said the paper aimed to provide financial stability and retirement pension security, among others.

“A book project is also in progress to collect life histories of Sabah’s tourist guides to document their pioneering contributions to the development of tourism in the State,” she said.
The policy paper was mooted to mark the International Tourist Guides Day, which was celebrated on every Feb 21.
