PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the government will allocate RM1 billion to kick-start a Bumiputera entrepreneurship fund.

He said the fund is aimed at encouraging and promoting growth in the high-value industry among the Bumiputera community.

“We want to create more successful Bumiputera companies such as Aerodyn, Les Copaque, and Animosta,” Anwar said at the closing ceremony of the Bumiputera Economic Congress 2024.

Meanwhile, Anwar also said Malay reserve lands must be developed properly and that Permodalan Nasional Bhd and Pelaburan Hartanah Nasional Bhd have been given the task of doing so.

“The government has also agreed to build 2,500 affordable houses in these Malay reserve lands,” he said, adding that to ensure Malays can afford housing in Kuala Lumpur, the government has demarcated 50 acres of Malay reserve lands in Bandar Malaysia.

According to Anwar, the Malay reserve lands will also be expanded by 200 acres in all the major cities in the country.

Anwar also announced the establishment of the Mara Madani Waqaf endowment fund. He said the fund is aimed at empowering the Bumiputera community, and that the fund is expected to reach RM1 billion within two years.

“The ‘waqaf’ will benefit the Bumiputera community, which makes up 70.1% of the population. Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim has promised to become the patron of the fund,” he added.
