Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Immigration Department is facing a major hurdle in its efforts to deport nearly 3,000 undocumented Filipinos due to the Philippine Embassy’s failure to issue special travel passes.
This has left the Filipinos in a state of limbo, detained in temporary holding centres across Sabah.
State Immigration Department Director Datuk SH Sitti Saleha Habib Yusoff expressed the department’s readiness to organise deportation exercises for the 2,993 undocumented Filipinos.
“However, such plans have been stalled due to the Philippine Embassy’s failure to issue special travel passes to their countrymen,” Saleha told Daily Express.
