Kota Kinabalu: Former Chief Minister Tan Sri Harris Mohd Salleh said the Federal Government should repeal restrictive laws and policies, including subsidies, to ensure that Malaysia and Malaysians meet global standards and live within their means.
“Despite Malaysia’s claim to be a free country, the myriad restrictive laws and policies will impede its progress towards being a developed nation.

“It is more noticeable to see these restrictive rules and practices on pricing control during holidays such as Hari Raya and Chinese New Year. Such regulations are superfluous given the amount of consumer food shops,” he said in a statement, Thursday.
Emphasising the detrimental impact of such laws and policies on Malaysia’s economic advancement and the prosperity of its people, he said the country’s restrictive measures become evident when examining various sectors, including foodstuff.
