PETALING JAYA: A former student of a Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) is seeking legal aid to handle a defamation claim, days after she alleged that one of the teachers is a paedophile.

The girl said she is in search of a lawyer who can provide pro bono services. She said in a posting on X that she had been informed she is being sued for RM3 million in defamation damages.

The girl had alleged that a teacher who is “clearly a paedophile and has been proven to be a paedophile” was still attached to the school in Tumpat.

Kelantan police said yesterday that several witnesses, including a student and teacher, have been called up to help in the investigations.

State police chief Zaki Harun said they received a report from a student who is allegedly a victim. A teacher had also lodged a report alleging criminal defamation.

He urged the public not to speculate on the matter as investigations are ongoing, and urged those with information to come forward.

The former student had claimed in her social media posting that she had been warned the teacher concerned would send lewd texts if he found a student to be pretty.

“It’s so terrifying knowing that he was caught so many times but is still allowed to teach minors,” she alleged.

Yesterday, Mara chairman Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said he had ordered a thorough investigation. “In the meantime, the teacher has been suspended until investigations are completed.”
