Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Environment Protection Association (Sepa) has voiced its concern over the escalating problem of plastic waste in the region, highlighting the urgent need for corporate entities to play a more significant role in addressing this issue.
Its President Alexander Yee emphasised the importance of corporate social responsibility in environmental conservation.
“The escalating issue of plastic waste in Kota Kinabalu has led to a plea for corporate entities and agencies to take on a more active role in tackling ocean pollution,” Yee said.
The severity of the problem was highlighted when a local water concessionaire company collected a staggering 12.1 tonnes of marine debris from the islands off Kota Kinabalu and Semporna in just four days.
