Kota Kinabalu: A group of agricultural industry players proposed the use of a mobile high-efficiency seawater desalination system to address the water supply issue affecting residents in Papar, as well as save paddy lands from salt water intrusion.
Papar has been declared a drought emergency district, threatening the livelihoods of local farmers.
Saline intrusion was reported in March forcing the temporary shutdown of the Limbahau Water Treatment Plant operations in Papar.
The consequences were significant, as the Limbahau plant serves over 50,000 consumers in the district
