KOTA MARUDU: Borneo’s only “La Pietà” replica that was commissioned and installed at St Theresa Church here by retired parish priest Fr. Felix Chung has been attracting a steady stream of visitors.
It was decided that the Michelangelo masterpiece should have a Mount Kinabalu backdrop graced by the symbolism of the Trinity.
It was done and installed by local renowned artist Peter Wong Su Kong, to mark the first Easter season at St Theresa Church.
The sculpture depicts Mother Virgin Mary holding Jesus after his crucifixion at Mount Golgotha representing the “Sixth Sorrow” of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
