Kota Kinabalu: Three Fire and Rescue Department stations are putting out an estimated 30-acre forest fire on Shantung Hill in Luyang, here, whose smoke overwhelms a nearby primary school.
Its Operations Centre spokesperson said Penampang covered the hills while Kota Kinabalu and Lintas were flanking the Taman Jindo and SK Luyang areas.
Penampang personnel were first at the scene nine minutes after receiving the 8.46am distress call.
Earlier, SK Luyang pupils were allowed to go home at 10.30am after a power outage was followed by the fire.
Its principal made the announcement via WhatsApp when the smoke coming from behind the school’s canteen began to be overwhelming.
