High expectations for Rhinos to deliver the goods

SABAH football fans will be in for a treat to watch the Sabah Maju Cup competition involving KL City FC from the Peninsula, Kuching City FC from Sarawak, Hougang United from Singapore and our very own Sabah FC starting this Monday at the Likas Stadium.
The four-team tournament which will play over seven days until May 5 offering not just the challenge trophy, the champions also get to win RM10,000 in cash with RM5,000 for the runners-up while the third and fourth placed teams will each receive RM3,000 and RM2,000 respectively.
ADVERTISEMENT The tournament comes timely for Sabah FC as this will serve as a very good testing ground for them to see how good their preparation is before the season opener against Penang FC on May 12 here at Likas Stadium.
Datuk Ong Kim Swee’s boys will also be up against much stronger opponents as opposed to the Keningau FA team whom they hammered 10-2 on Tuesday.
There is bound to be excitement in the air for the Rhinos fans as well after the last home against Kedah FC in December last year.
They will be eager to see the players in action against two Super leagues teams and another team from the Singapore Premier League.
ADVERTISEMENT Despite the presence of the three tougher teams, I expect Sabah FC to win the Cup with the home ground advantage and very strong support from the fans.
The team has also retained almost all the first choice players from last season that helped them finish in third place in the league.
ADVERTISEMENT The management has also signed one import player this season – Charalampos ‘Haris’ Stamboulidis from Australia who can play in both midfield and defence has come on board after he successfully passed the trials this month.
Hopefully his arrival will further strengthen the team this season. I believe Sabah FC are preparing well for this year’s campaign.
There will be high expectations from the fans this year, so hopefully the players will deliver the goods starting with a good performance in this year’s Sabah Maju Cup.
I am sure that Kuching City FC and KL City FC as well as Hougang United will be fielding their strongest players especially their import players for the tournament in preparation for the start of the season.
Hopefully we will get to watch a week of good quality football from all four teams next week.
Good luck Sabah FC!
