Papar police hunt for suspect in armed robbery
Kamaruddin said the suspect, who was wearing a helmet, grabbed the woman’s bag before the victim intervened, which led to a struggle between the assailant and the victim.
PAPAR: Police here have launched a manhunt after a 27-year-old suffered injuries on both arms in an armed robbery near Melinsung Summer Bay Apartment, Thursday.

According to District Police Chief DSP Kamaruddin Ambo Sakka, the incident happened around 1.30am when the victim, who works as a vegetable seller, and his fiancé decided to make a pit stop near the apartment after making a delivery in Kota Kinabalu.

“They stopped to have a meal at one of the restaurants at the shop lots. Upon parking their vehicle, a Perodua Myvi made a sudden stop near the victims before an individual approached his fiancé with a sharp object believed to be a samurai sword,” he said.

Kamaruddin said the suspect, who was wearing a helmet, grabbed the woman’s bag before the victim intervened, which led to a struggle between the assailant and the victim.

During the struggle, the suspect assaulted the victim with his weapon, leaving the man injured on both arms.

“The suspect managed to flee after robbing the victim’s fiancé of her bag containing her mobile phone and other important documents. It is believed that the escape vehicle was driven by the suspect’s accomplice.

“The victim was then brought to Papar Hospital by his fiancé for further medical treatment before proceeding to make a police report,” he added.

Kamaruddin said police are tracking down the suspect and urged the public to channel information by calling 088-912222 or visit the nearest police station.

“They can also contact the investigating officer of the case, Inspector Wong Yew Zhung, at 010-5635169,” he said.

The case is being investigated according to Section 394/397 of the Penal Code.
