SANDAKAN: Beggars are active, especially around the Sunday market and banking area again.
Tanjung Papat Assemblyman, Datuk Frankie Poon Ming Fung, said he received complaints from the public and voiced concern for the safety of residents and tourists in Sandakan.
The State Community Development and People’s Wellbeing Ministry (KPMKR) planned to set up a Non-Ciizen Beggar Protection Centre to address the increasing prevalent of beggars, including homeless people and alms beggars, especially in Sandakan.
According to the Ministry, the Centre would protect street children from the “Palauh” ethnicity who are rescued, with a maximum isolation period of three months.
