Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Shitoryu Karate Association contingent (Shitoryu Sabah) received a rousing welcome upon returning to the State with victory from the 2024 M.A.S.K (Malaysian Shitoryu Karate-Do Association) National Championship held at the Malaysian Paralympic Complex, Kampung Pandan, in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (May 4).
The tournament ended with an excellent performance by Sabah athletes, who topped the final medal table with 17 gold, 12 silver and ten bronze medals, followed by Shitoryu Selangor and Shitoryu Kuala Lumpur who won eight and four gold medals respectively.

The event was attended by ten teams from all over Malaysia, including more than 300 participants ranging from the age of five to senior level in the male and female categories.
Shitoryu Sabah president Gesiri Gambung said the Shitoryu Sabah contingent was represented by a total of 28 athletes accompanied by 15 parents and supporters led by team manager Wilhelmina Danny and coaches Malcom Marwill and McRoyce Donoval Dagul. Also representing Shitoryu Sabah as referees were Sensei Thomas Olin and Sensei Primus Sunning.

“In the sport of karate, we are one big family. In fact, this tournament gave us the opportunity to build a very good relationship among athletes, parents and coaches. We walk together like a big family in Shitoryu Sabah,” he said.
The Shitoryu Sabah gold medal winners consisted of Inara Nadeera Mohd Nazrey (Female 6-8 years old Individual Kata & Kumite -25kg), Inas Naaila Mohd Nazrey (Female 9-11 years old Individual Kata), Hans Joseph Junior (Male 12-13 years old Individual Kata), Elcy Fredoline (Female 6-8 years old Individual Kumite +25kg), Sylisaac Immanuel Sylvalerian (Male 9-11 years old Individual Kumite -40kg), Scarlet Hope Danny Chong (Female 9-11 years old Individual Kumite +30kg), Donovee Lesley (Female 12-13 years old Individual Kumite -45kg), Jessyline Jane Luis (Female 12-13 years old Individual Kumite +45kg), Grebradley Bryan Gesiri Gambung (Cadet Male Individual Kata & Kumite -47kg), Jacquiline Jean Luis (Cadet Female Individual Kata & Kumite -47kg), Larresca Jayne Herbert Hezron (Junior Female Individual Kata), Jesyntha Chong (Senior Female Individual Kata), Thiery Christian Thomas (Junior Male Individual Kumite +61kg) and McRoyce Donovan Dagul (Senior Male Individual Kumite -75kg).
Meanwhile, the silver medals came from Sylisaac Immanuel Sylvalerian (Male 9-11 years old Individual Kata), Clovie Beverly Gesiri Gambung (Female 12-13 years old Individual Kata & Kumite -45kg), Charity Bea Gesiri Gambung (Female 6-8 years old Individual Kumite -25kg), Mohd Dayyan Shahrizal (Male 9-11 years old Individual Kumite -40kg), Inas Naaila Mohd Nazrey (Female 9-11 years old Individual Kumite -30kg), Reavelle Adelaide G (Female 12-13 years old Individual Kumite +45kg), Qisya Eryana Mohd Azmi @ Roger (Cadet Female Individual Kata & Kumite -47kg), Elzy Elezendro Primus (Cadet Male Individual Kumite +57kg), Daniel Lee Errzie (Cadet Male Individual Kumite-47kg) and Larresca Jayne Herbert Hezron (Female Junior Individual Kumite +53kg) while the bronze medals were from Elcy Fredoline (Female 6-8 years old Individual Kata), Mohd Dayyan Shahrizal (Male 9-11 years old Individual Kata), Luxorius Lex Luis (Male 9-11 years old Individual Kata & Kumite -40kg ), Reavelle Adelaide G (Female 12-13 years old Individual Kata), Haylen Joelle Zoe Ann (Female 9-11 years old Individual Kumite -30kg), Hans Joseph Junior (Male 12-13 years old Individual Kumite -50kg), Theo Noah Thomas (Male 12-13 years old Individual Kumite +50kg), Irfan Mohd Azmi @ Roger (Senior Male Individual Kata) and Jesyntha Chong (Senior Female Individual Kumite -55kg).
