No change, SPM results out on May 27
Education minister Fadhlina Sidek said the ministry needed sufficient time to process the results thoroughly and accurately.
PETALING JAYA: The education ministry is maintaining its decision to release the results of the 2023 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination on May 27, minister Fadhlina Sidek said today.

She said this was the best decision, although the ministry understood the reasoning behind the call by the National Union of Teaching Profession for the results to be released earlier in view of the school term break from May 24 to June 2.

In an immediate response, union president Aminuddin Awang appealed to the ministry to reconsider and announce the results after the school holidays.

“If May 23 is still a problem for the ministry, they can try to postpone the announcement until schools reopen the following week so as not to cause problems for teachers. The holiday is only for a week, not long,” he said.

Fadhlina, in a Facebook post, wrote that “teachers can proceed with the activities they had planned for the school holidays” and urged school administrators to ensure that teachers’ travel plans will not be interrupted by the release of the SPM results.

Some 395,870 candidates registered for the examination.

NUTP had called for the results to be released earlier, saying this would allow teachers to go for their term break, while releasing the results on May 27 would affect teachers’ travel plans.
