SBA gets new president
Datuk Maijol Mahap was elected as the new president at the SBA Annual General Meeting, Saturday, which was attended by 14 affiliated districts.
Kota Kinabalu: Datuk Maijol Mahap is back to take the helm of Sabah Badminton Association (SBA) after more than 10 years absence.

He was elected as the new president at the SBA Annual General Meeting, here, Saturday, which was attended by 14 affiliated districts.

The post was earlier left vacant following the resignation of Janih Bangud last September.

Maijol was the president from 2006 to 2013 and during that period, SBA organised the historic World Super Series Master Final at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex in 2008 and several State players were also drafted into the national squad.

SBA, under him, was awarded the Best State Sport Association in 2008 and he was presented the Best Sports Leader Award for three consecutive years from 2008 to 2010.

He was also appointed as national team manager by BAM at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, the Asian Games in Guangzhou, the Sudirman Cup in Guangzhou, the Junior World Cup in Auckland and the Master Super Series in Korea, Denmark, Macau, and Japan.

He expressed his gratitude to all the affiliates who supported him and said he fully understood the task ahead.

“I know the expectations of all the governorate districts and all badminton fans in Sabah.

“Our immediate focus is to improve the performance of players in Sabah and try to win competitions at all levels.

“This is not easy but with everyone’s cooperation and support, I am sure it is not impossible.”

“In addition, our dream is to have a SBA building equipped with courts, dormitories and offices,” he added.

The election Saturday only involved the position of president as the term of Council Members will only expire next year.
