Golden Screen Cinema (GSC) Sdn Bhd has reportedly announced plans to close several of its cinema locations as a part of a broader strategy to enhance the efficiency of its operations in an initiative that focuses on consolidating theatres that are geographically close to each other.
The CEO of GSC, Koh Mei Lee, stated that the decision is a response to the overabundance of shopping centres, especially in the Klang Valley area, which offers a wide variety of entertainment choices to consumers,
NST reported.
Koh said the strategy involves shutting down cinemas that are experiencing lower visitor numbers and shifting attention to newer, more frequented venues. For instance, GSC LaLaport BBCC is now the focus, following the closure of the GSC outlet at Berjaya Times Square.
She further added that this move would allow the company’s staff to concentrate their efforts on cinemas situated in areas with greater foot traffic and denser populations.
