Kota Kinabalu: President of the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong), Tan Sri TC Goh will be defending his position as President of the Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS).
The annual meeting would be held on June 8 and nominations would be from May 20 to May 25.
“I welcome all members who are interested in running for the central committee to submit their nominations and contribute to FCAS,” Goh said at the Youth/Women AGM of the Federation of Hokkien Associations of Sabah and FT Labuan at Putera Theatre Ballroom, Bukit Padang, Friday.
At last year’s general meeting, FCAS amended its constitution to allow the terms for central committee members, supervisors and other committee members to be for three years, with the possibility of re-election.
This means the president is no longer restricted to only two consecutive terms.
Goh also clarified there is no requirement to pay RM5,000 to nominate a candidate for the FCAS central committee.
He said even before nominations have begun, rumours have been circulating that someone was denied nomination for not paying RM5,000.
“These rumours were spread by individuals with ulterior motives.
“I hope with this clarification, those who are interested in contributing to the association can submit their nominations and work together to strengthen the Chinese community,” Goh said.
He said those willing to help are welcome to join and improve the association.
