JOHOR BARU: The suspect killed in the attack on the Ulu Tiram police station, here, on Friday was believed to have acted alone, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
He said the action of the 21-year-old local was not linked to a group as was initially concluded by the police after 46 individuals were interviewed to facilitate the investigation.
“At this preliminary stage, we found the suspect acted alone. We call it ‘lone wolf’, he is (believed) driven by certain motivation as it was found that he does not mix with other people,” he told a press conference at the Johor Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK), here, Saturday.
Also present was Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.
In the 2.45am attack on Friday, three were killed, namely two policemen, Constable Ahmad Azza Fahmi Azhar, 22, and Constable Muhamad Syafiq Ahmad Said, 24, and the 21-year-old suspect.
Another policeman, Corporal Mohd Hasif Roslan, was also injured in the incident and is reported to be in stable condition at Sultan Ismail Hospital.
The suspect killed in the incident is believed to be a member of Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) and an investigation at the suspect’s house in Ulu Tiram led to the arrest of five members of his family, aged 19 to 62.
The police have obtained an order to remand the five family members for investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Meanwhile, Saifuddin Nasution said the remains of Ahmad Azza Fahmi and Muhamad Syafiq will be taken to Tunku Laksamana Abdul Jalil Mosque, Johor Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK), here, for the funeral prayers and last respects. After that, the bodies of the two policemen would be taken to their hometown in Bidor, Perak and Kuantan, Pahang, to be buried.
As for the family of the policeman injured in the attack, Saifuddin Nasution said he would ensure that the welfare of the family would be looked into.
Earlier, he visited the location of the attack at the Ulu Tiram Police Station. Constable Mohd Khairul Azhar Abbi Paisa, who was at the scene then, told him what happened.
The Minister also attended the funeral prayer for the two policemen killed in the attack.
