Man jailed, fined for drink-driving

SANDAKAN: A 64-year-old man was jailed one day and fined RM10,000 or five months’ jail for drink- driving.

Magistrate Nur Faezah Jafry handed the sentence to Sahid Asik, who pleaded guilty to the charge against him.

He was found driving while under the influence of alcohol along Jalan Utara, here, in February this year.

The offence under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987(Amended 2020) carries a jail term of up to two years and fine of up RM30,000, on conviction.

Earlier, Prosecuting Officer Inspector Rodi Anak Wong urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence as a lesson to Sahid and other drivers. Sahid not represented.
