SANDAKAN: An estimated six acres of the Elopura recreational forest reserve was destroyed by fire at 9.06am, last Saturday.

Fire-fighting at Sim-Sim hill lasted until late evening.

The incident was earlier reported by people from a nearby temple.

Extinguishing operations two jet streams sourced of water tankers and fire extinguishers.

The fire brigade had asked the police to close the climbing entrance to the public to ensure no hiking activities are carried out.

Residents are advised to hold off any hiking activities at the location for the time being to avoid any untoward incident.
