Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has emphasised the importance of understanding, appreciating, and accepting the cultural diversity and uniqueness inherited since time immemorial.

“I would like to remind the people, especially the younger generation, to appreciate the prosperity we have achieved.

“Show exemplary behaviour as a respected and honourable nation,” he said at the Kota Kinabalu City Kaamatan Festival celebration at Imago shopping mall, here, Saturday.

“Like other ethnic festivals, the uniqueness of the Kaamatan festival can attract tourists and boost the State’s tourism sector, including this city.

“The cultural and traditional uniqueness of our diverse communities is our most important asset.

“With world-class natural beauty and unique cultural diversity, Sabah has become a top destination for tourists worldwide.”

His speech was read by Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Abidin Madingkir.

Hajiji said the government continually supports the State’s cultural and religious celebrations and programmes.

He added that cultural programmes can strengthen unity by providing opportunities for people to learn about, understand, and appreciate the traditions and cultures of different ethnic groups.

He said the organisation of the Kaamatan Festival should be expanded in various aspects to enhance the appeal of this celebration.

“New ideas and interesting cultural values in the Kaamatan celebration should be comprehensively explored and expressed through new programme content,” he said.
