PETALING JAYA: Four people have been fined RM500 each for using a gas stove to cook at a petrol station in Genting Highlands, Pahang.

Fadhli Zil Ikram Sazalin Isran, Nurfatin Irdina Shahrulnizam, Nur Anis Salleh, all 24, and Nur Azira Azman, 23, pleaded guilty at the Bentong magistrates’ court to endangering themselves and others by using the gas stove at the petrol station.

Magistrate Nadratun Naiem Zainan ordered them to be jailed for three days if they failed to pay the fine, Sinar Harian reported.

They were charged under Section 336 of the Penal Code, read with Section 34 of the same law, which provides for up to three months’ imprisonment, a RM500 fine, or both.

Deputy public prosecutor Zamharir Zuhid asked the court to mete out a punishment proportionate to the offence to serve as a lesson to others.

The accused then asked for a low fine amount, saying they had to look after their parents and siblings.

When asked why they had used the stove at the petrol station, Nurfatin said that they were hungry, admitting however that they were in the wrong.
