Kota Kinabalu: Sabah will be the filming location for the international film “Sea Gypsies” at the end of this year.

Film Producer of BWG Vision Tech Sdn. Bhd, Mohamad Aliff Najmi Abdullah said the film is a historical fiction joint venture between Malaysia and China in conjunction with 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

“At least 50 to 60 per cent of the filming will be done in Sabah and among the locations are Semporna, Tawau, Tuaran and Sandakan.

“When completed, this film will be screened in 10,000 theatres in China with an expected 60 million viewers and this will be a good opportunity to introduce the beauty of Sabah.

“It is also expected to help increase the economic growth of the film sector, including in the State’s tourism sector,” he told the media after paying a courtesy call on Head of State, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin at the State Palace on Tuesday.

Earlier, also paying a courtesy call on Juhar was the Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Kota Kinabalu, Yoon Ockchae and his entourage who aimed to introduce themselves as well as discuss cooperation to improve socioeconomics for both countries.
