KENINGAU: A fuel station at Sook town, 41km from here, suffered RM4,600 in losses after it was broken into by three men armed with slingshots and a crowbar.
The incident, which took place at 12.30am when the station was closed, was recorded on its closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera.
ADVERTISEMENT Keningau Police Chief Supt Yampil Anak Garai said they were notified of the incident by the station manager later that morning.
He said the CCTV recording showed the suspects arriving in a car.
“The suspects were wearing jackets, long trousers and gloves while their faces were covered,” he said.
“However, our checks on the registration plate number found that it was falsified as it was registered under a different vehicle,” he added.
ADVERTISEMENT Supt Yampil said the suspects had used slingshots and a crowbar during the crime.
“One of them shot at the glass wall until it shattered before the two other suspects went into the station to steal.
ADVERTISEMENT “Efforts are underway to locate the trio,” he said, adding the case was being probed under Section 457 of the Penal Code for breaking into the station to commit a burglary.
In addition to cash and cigarettes, the suspects allegedly stole a mobile phone, resulting in a total loss of approximately RM4,500.
