KOTA MARUDU: State Liaison Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) Chairman, Jupperi Lenson urged the KMDR community to teach children their mother tongue so that this language does not become extinct in today’s modern age of technology.

He said the Kadazan Dusun Murut Rungus community should defend the mother tongue which is the identity of this community.

The teaching of the mother tongue should start at home by parents and should be used as a daily conversation between parents and children.

“Our mother tongue today needs to be defended and taught to children because our children are the successors of the next generation,” he said.

The Mukim Mangaris Kaamatan Festival organised by PBM in collaboration with the Kadazandusun Cultural Association (KDCA) Mangaris was attended by about 1,000 people who came from this district, Pensiangan, Kota Kinabalu, Kota Belud, Penampang and Sipitang.

Among the events were the children’s fashion queen, mother’s queen and Unduk Ngadau, in addition to that, a traditional cooking competition was also held, while the highlight event was breaking the bundle sacks which was also an attraction for the visitors.
