PETALING JAYA: Two police reports have been filed against the author of several articles for allegedly seeking to disparage Sarawak premier Abang Johari Openg.
Gabungan Parti Sarawak information chief Idris Buang said the police reports were necessary following several unsavoury “attacks” on the state and its leaders, which have gone viral on social media.
Idris, who is also the Muara Tuang assemblyman, said the reports were lodged “by some Sarawakians” against the author, calling for an investigation to be started under Section 499 of the Penal Code for criminal defamation.
“We urge the police to investigate this author for his malicious writing, which was clearly done in bad faith to harm the reputation of our premier,” The Borneo Post quoted him as saying
He claimed such freelance or ghostwriters were seeking to destabilise Sarawak in every way possible.
“To do this, they target our leaders,” he said, adding that their articles on social media are purely meant to insult and tarnish the reputation of the state’s leaders.
“These writers are neither ethical journalists nor respectable in any way because they use their skills to speak as much ill as they can of our leaders,” he said.
