TAWAU: Police arrested a couple believed to be husband and wife and seized an air rifle and 221 transparent packets of suspected syabu in a raid on an unnumbered house in Kg Sungai Melayu, Pulau Sebatik, on Monday.
Tawau Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said acting on intelligence, the male suspect, 54, was arrested by a Special Branch team at 4.30pm.
“The suspect handed over the air rifle hanging behind his bedroom door as well as a sheathed sword, a slingshot and 20 arrowheads,” he said.
The suspect was taken to the Tawau police station for further investigation under Section 7(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958, Section 8(a) of the Weapons Act 1960 and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
Jasmin said during the raid a foreign woman, 30, believed to be the man’s wife, was also examined, leading to the discovery of a waist bag containing chunks of clear crystal suspected to be syabu packed in 221 transparent plastic packets.
He said the drug has an estimated gross weight of 64.81gm worth about RM6,500.
According to him, the female suspect was also taken to the station for further investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Jasmin said Tawau police are intensifying efforts to combat criminal and drug activities through more aggressive operations involving various divisions and branches, including other stations.
