Kota Kinabalu: The State Local Government and Housing Ministry (KKTP) will lead a task force to study and find a solution for waste disposal site in collaboration with the local authorities (PBT), said Minister Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam.

This issue was one of the matters raised during his visits to Kota Belud and Kota Marudu district council.

During a visit to Kota Belud, Dr Joachim, who is also Deputy Chief Minister II, received a governance briefing from the Executive Officer of Kota Belud District Council, Kamariah Haji Ismail.

Also present were Tempasuk Assemblyman Datuk Mohd. Arshad Bistari, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Datuk Dr Jamili Nais, Kota Belud District Council Chairman Haji Bakri Haji Nanun, representative of the Kota Belud District Police Chief Inspector Sabestian Ak Pendie as well as District Council members and KKTP officers.

Among the issues discussed were landfill sites.

During a visit to Kota Marudu, Dr Joachim and his entourage were given a briefing on the governance of the Kota Marudu District Council by its Executive Officer Abdul Sani Arsat.

He was informed that the waste disposal site in Kota Marudu could no longer accommodate the amount of waste collected by the Council.

Additionally, the road to the disposal site is damaged and difficult to pass during rainy season and needs upgrades.

The visit is part of Dr Joachim’s series of visits to all PBTs in Sabah, which began early this year.
