PETALING JAYA: A Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight carrying over 100 passengers bound for Kuala Lumpur made an emergency landing at Hyderabad airport in India following technical issues with the aircraft’s engine.

The Times of India quoted Hyderabad airport officials as saying that flight MH199 departed at 12.45am today but was forced to return for an emergency landing.

It is understood that the aircraft experienced an engine malfunction, which caused sparks to emanate from the affected engine.

In a statement, MAS confirmed that flight MH199 from Hyderabad to Kuala Lumpur returned to Hyderabad due to an issue with one of the engines after take-off.

MAS said the aircraft landed at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at 3.21am local time, with all passengers and crew disembarking safely.

“The affected passengers will be put on other flights to continue their journey,” it said.

“The aircraft is currently grounded for further inspection. Safety is of utmost importance to Malaysia Airlines.”
