Kota Kinabalu: A man's attempt to save his sister and nephew from drowning ended in tragedy when he was found drowned in Sungai Dewata, Lahad Datu, Tuesday, it has been reported.

The 33-year-old man was confirmed dead after he was taken to the hospital for treatment by his family members in the 11 am incident, Info X reported.

However, his 16- and 10-year-old nephew and sister were rescued by other family members without any injuries.

Lahad Datu District Police chief  ACP Assistant Commissioner Dzulbaharin Ismail said the man and his family had gone picnicking at the said location.
