TAWAU: A secondary school clerk claimed trial to two counts of using her position to receive bribes amounting to RM39,000 four years ago.
Hasniah A.M Nawir, 50, made the plea before Sessions Court Judge Jason Juga after the charges were read to her.
On the first count, Hasniah is accused of using her position as Administrative Assistant of SMK Abaka to receive RM19,920 by inviting Syarikat Mega Corporation which belonged to Jusia Jumat, for the rental service of photocopy and copy-printer for the school under the e-Perolehan system but the works were done by herself.
She allegedly committed the offence in Sept 24, 2020 at SMK Abaka, here.
On the second count, she allegedly obtained the bribe by using her position to choose MRD Enterprise to carry the works of the installation of sinks, piping and other works at the school amounting to RM19,980.
The company belonged to her husband, Saharuddin Kasim.
The offence allegedly took place at the school in August 2020.
The court set Aug 20 for mention and offered Hasniah bail of RM15,000 with RM2,000 deposited with a local surety.
Hasniah was also ordered to report to Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) office once in two months, her passport, if any, to be kept by the court until the disposal of her case and warned not to tamper with the prosecution witnesses.
Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Izzati Sapifee of MACC, proposed bail at RM30,000, adding that the bribe amount was more than RM30,000.
However, Hasniah asked for the bail amount to be reduced by telling the court that she needed to take care of her children.
