II Sports crowned 3 x 3 basketball champions

Kota Kinabalu: II Sports were crowned champions in the open category of the inaugural Ginger Cup 3 x 3 Basketball Carnival held at the Luyang Multi-Purpose Hall over the weekend.

They took home RM5,000 cash prize for the win and in second place were Abdi-Gym with the RM3,000 prize followed by Gom-Myth in third place who took home RM1,000.

In the Under-18 category, the winners and RM2,000 went to 1st Beginner and the second and third places went to Lord Tiger and Lo Bak Zhao, who each received RM1,000 and RM500 respectively.

Earlier eight teams made it to the final rounds and Gom-Myth topped the ranking followed by Naga Battery, II Sports, Borneo Wolf, Abadi -Gym, TPBC, King’s and Rooster in the open category, while Lo Bak Zhao came top in the Under-18 group stage and second to eight places went to Wakao, Beginner, Lord Tiger, Underdogg, Y-Ganang, Rooster and No Smoking.

A total of 44 teams with 24 in the open category and 20 in the Under-18 participated in the two-day event jointly organised by Kota Kinabalu Basketball Association and New Dimension.

Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Datuk Ginger Phoong Jin Zhe who was present at the closing ceremony to give away the prizes congratulated all the winners.

He hopes the carnival will be continued next year with the women category added.

He also thanked the organising committee for their hard work and the sponsors for their support to ensure the success of the tournament.
