TAMBUNAN: The Kiawayan Dance Club from Tambunan won the First Grade Diploma and Best Young Talent titles at the Asia Folk festival in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, recently.
Although luck was not on the side of the club to take the top three overall, their mesmerising performance stole the attention of the judges, said SK Kiawayan Headmaster, Geoffery Joseph Chong.
The club’s performances include creative ethnic dance of the Murut tribe, “Anggalang Magunatip – Dance of Bravery”, which managed to put Malaysia on the map, alongside 29 performing arts groups from China, Indonesia, India, Iran, Japan, South Korea, Uzbekistan and host Mongolia.
According to him, the gold award was won by host Mongolia with a performance of the traditional musical instrument mouth harp, the silver award was won by Indonesia which featured the creative Minangkabau ethnic dance while Uzbekistan won the bronze award with the traditional Lazgi dance.
