PETALING JAYA: The suspect in the recent bomb threat at the tourism, arts and culture ministry was an imposter, Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Isa said today.
He said police had confirmed that the person the suspect impersonated was not on the premises at that time.

“The person who came to deliver the parcel was impersonating someone else. That person does exist, but he was not present (during the incident).
“We have confirmed that he had no connection to the parcel,” Rusdi told reporters during a press conference at the Brickfields police headquarters.
Rusdi also revealed CCTV screen grabs of the suspect, who was wearing a mask.
He urged anyone with information on the suspect to go to the nearest police station to assist with the investigation.

He also advised public and private building security to enforce standard operating procedures requiring people entering the premises to remove their masks or helmets for identification.
The ministry was evacuated on June 5 after receiving what was suspected to be an explosive device addressed to tourism, arts and culture minister Tiong King Sing.

Putrajaya police chief Asmadi Abdul Aziz said the supposed bomb – received at 11.19am and sent using a delivery service from Sungai Buloh – was a fake, consisting of a PVC pipe and timer made up to resemble an explosive device.
Police have since taken statements from several people, including Tiong, to assist in the investigation.
