Kota Kinabalu: All water treatment plants in the Kota Kinabalu area and its surroundings are functioning as usual except for the Kasigui Water Treatment Plant.

Deputy Chief Minister III cum Works Minister Datuk Ir. Shahelmey Yahya said maintenance works at the Kasigui Water Treatment Plant (LRA) are underway. 

However, the relatively high water level of the river at the moment has become a constraint on the process of maintenance work carried out as a result of the flood disaster on Sunday.

“In order to prevent water disruption in the affected areas, the State Water Department together with Jetama Sdn Bhd took the initiative to activate the Madsiang water intake and pump raw water from there to be treated at LRA Kasigui before being distributed to consumers.

“The Water Department will constantly monitor existing water treatment plants, especially during this flood season, to ensure the water produced is clean and safe for use,” said Shahelmey, in a statement, Tuesday.

He advised the public to always take precautions and be aware of unpredictable weather changes.
