Kota Kinabalu: State shooter Thomas Kiu Chong Hei won the men’s trap event in the Tun Tan Siew Sin Trophy Shooting Championship for the first time at the National Shooting Range in Selangor on June 30.
His score of 37 points in the final to take the gold medal was five points more than second placed Leong Wei Heng and in third place was Eng Wei Jin with 26 points.
The 59-year-old, who was the only representative from Sabah Shooting Association (SSA) to take part in the competition, had earlier made it to the finals as fourth ranked among the six finalists with his total score of 96 in the quarterfinal.
The maiden victory in the tournament was also his first title this year, after winning a bronze in the Tun Hanif Trophy tournament held in March and he hopes to compete and do well in all the events scheduled later this year.
Meanwhile, SSA president Tan Sri Goh Tian Chuan congratulated Kiu who paid a courtesy call on him at his office on Wednesday.
“It was a stellar performance from Kiu to deliver the gold medal to make the State and SSA proud.
