PENAMPANG: The Penampang Chinese Chamber of Commerce (PCCCI), led by President Victor Kou Lee Chong, provided food to flood victims taking shelter at the Penampang Cultural Centre.
Expressing empathy for those impacted, Victor urged the government to address the issue and allocate funds to assist affected business owners.

He highlighted the dual challenge faced by flood-hit businesses: the inability to operate and the loss of inventory due to water damage.
Victor also brought attention to an emerging problem for new shop owners in Penampang. Due to the area’s designation as a flood-prone zone, insurance companies are now reluctant to provide coverage to new businesses. In contrast, established businesses with existing policies can maintain their coverage.
Emphasising the need for governmental support, Victor called for financial assistance to help Penampang’s business community overcome these difficulties.
He stressed the importance of both short-term and long-term strategies to mitigate flooding in the area, urging policymakers to develop comprehensive plans to address this recurring issue.
