TAWAU: A motorcyclist died following a three-vehicle collision at Jalan Lapangan Terbang Tawau at about 10.30pm, last Saturday.
Tawau Police Chief, ACP Jasmin Hussin, said the 33-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene due to fatal injuries after being flung from the impact.
He said police investigation found that the accident occurred between a male e-hailing driver, 38, who was driving a Perodua Alza, a Proton Saga driven by a woman, 36, and the Honda motorcycle ridden by the deceased.
“The Alza driver was heading to Tawau Airport to pick up passengers, while the Proton Saga driver with a male passenger, 37, was returning home from work and the victim was coming from the same direction.
“The motorcyclist tried to overtake the Proton Saga by entering into the opposite lane. However, due to the short distance, the victim hit the Alza and smashed into the windscreen of the Proton Saga.
“As a result of the collision, the victim was flung about 21m to the shoulder of the left road side,” he said.
The driver of the Proton Saga and his passenger as well as the e-hailing driver sustained minor injuries.
He added that the accident resulted in damages on the Perodua Alza and Proton Saga, while the victim’s motorcycle was badly damaged.
Police are still investigating the case under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
