RANAU: Two families here lost everything after their homes and properties were destroyed in a fire on Sunday morning.
Head of BBP Ranau Station, PPgB Ridwan bin Mohd Taib, said the incident happened in Kg Lembah Permai, Kundasang, at about 11.50am.
“The call was received through the Mers 999 line at 11.55am and a group ofseven7 firemen, led by the Operations Commander, PBK II Mastin Suli, rushed to the location.
“Arriving at the scene which is located 16km from the station, we found that the two houses were already 90 per cent destroyed.”
Ridwan added that the Fire Brigade carried out extinguishing operations using three 200ft jets and water sources from fire engines and open water.
He said the fire was brought under control at 1.02pm.
There was no casualty while the cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
He reiterated the call towards the public to be more cautious of fire incidents, especially during the current windy season.
“The public needs to prioritise safety first because fire in the open area could easily become uncontrollable and could turn disastrous with the risk of losing valuable assets, homes and even lives.
“If there is any open burning that cannot be avoided, it must be monitored and controlled, in order to prevent the spread of fire to nearby areas,” he said.
According to Ridwan, for fire emergency or special services the public can contact Bomba Ranau at its 24-hour line (088-878779), hotline at 019-2449348 or dial 999.
